Sunday Market – stalls selling like the Mayor’s hot cakes Our popular and highly acclaimed market takes place on 27th September, the final day of the Festival. Last year thousands of people passed through the Market Place buying the produce Test your culinary skills in our competitions We’ve lined up two competitions this year, one for all ages and one for children. The Chef’s Table and Whatley Manor are sponsoring and organising The Tetbury Pie Competition. Competitors are invited to create a pie large enough to serve eight using local ingredients. Wine and dine with Rob Rees and Bona Wines at the Close Hotel Rob Rees MBE, The Cotswold Chef, is sponsoring our Food and Drink Festival again. This year he’s doing a double act with Jackie Barr of Bona Wines on 24th September at The Close Hotel. The evening starts at 6.15pm with a glass of fizz. At 6.30pm Rob will give a cooking demonstration covering three dishes. Afterwards from around 7.45pm Ed Cracknall, the Chef at The Close Hotel, will serve a three course meal derived from Rob’s dishes. Throughout the meal Jackie will give you the chance to sample wines that would suit the food served on the evening and give you tips on tasting wines. It’s bound to be an experience to savour with delicious food and fine wines to pamper your palate. Warning: ingredients include wit and banter. Tickets for the evening are available from The Close Hotel. Real ale and local drinks festival at The Priory Inn The Priory Inn is hosting a celebration of our local drinks between 1.00pm and 5.00pm on 26th September. There’ll be plenty of real ales, ciders and wines plus great food to enjoy whilst taking in the music…. 50 Percent Balls - a local 4-piece band comprising guitar, banjo, bass and harmonica who enjoy playing unlikely versions of well-known songs - originally a bluegrass outfit, the band has slithered into neighbouring genres - Jody Veale (harmonica and backing vocals), Paul Jameson (guitar, lead and backing vocals), Danny Ball (electric bass) and Andy Ball (banjo, harmonica, lead and backing vocals) Lament - who stir up a wonderful evocative concoction of irresistible world grooves and Latin fever. They cross boundaries mixing up gypsy and Latin rhythms refusing to be labelled as any particular genre blending jazz, ethnic groove and flamenco styles all underscoring memorable and original melodic songs tinged with lyrical melancholy but always managing to come out joyous and life affirming. And don’t miss the great Tetbury Tater weigh-in! The Friends of Tetbury Hospital launched the Tetbury Taters Competition in March to raise funds for the hospital. Competitors paid an entry fee and had to grow a potato in a bucket. They were provided with the bucket and the seed potato, so all they needed to supply was a little TLC (time, love, and compost)! There’s a prize for the heaviest crop, and of course there’ll be home-grown potatoes for all. If you’d like to witness the weigh-in, make sure you’re at The Priory Inn from 2.00pm to 4.00pm on 26th September. You can also enjoy local ales, ciders, wines and music while you’re there. Share the tastes of the Gloucester Old Spot Sausage Appreciation Society Last year we launched the Gloucester Old Spot Sausage Appreciation Society and this year we’re making sure that our favourite food features prominently during the Festival. Why not join us at our inaugural dinner at The Close Hotel on 23rd September? As well as savouring sumptuous local sausages you can meet the founding members of the society and find out why the Old Spot pig is so special from our guest speaker, Julian Hasler, owner of Great Larkhill Farm. If you can’t make the 23rd you can still sample Old Spot sausages on Saturday 26th when John Newman of Jesse Smith’s will be cooking Old Spot sausages and Aberdeen Angus burgers outside the shop. Your final chance will be on the last day of the Festival, Sunday 27th, when the Snooty Fox, thanks to Marc Gibbons, the Manager and supporter of the Society, will be holding a sausage and cider festival. And to maintain the theme throughout the Festival, Café 53 will have Old Spot ham on its menu for the week.
